"Refugee Calves", Pamela Seong Koon
Like expanse of river,
ends of a fence:
skirt and shirt from the same thread.
Refugee calves mirroring
through border panels.
One balancing on recycled
rectangular cardboard—
the other follows gracefully.
a rock, pinned halfway:
fulcrum of this see-saw.
One after another,
with absent weight,
the see-saw folds then leaps
for new summits
before descent.
A child’s heart brims to
equilibrium taking turns.
After all, the hue of fair play
is a scale
both innocent and foolish.
